The Orbit of the Brown Dwarf Binary Gl 569 B

چکیده
We present photometric, astrometric and spectroscopic observations of the nearby (9.8 pc) low-mass binary Gl 569Bab (in turn being a companion to the early-M star Gl 569A), made with the Keck adaptive optics facility. Having observed Gl 569Bab since August 1999, we are able to see orbital motion and to determine the orbital parameters of the pair. We find the orbital period to be 892 ± 25 days, the semi-major axis to be 0.90 ± 0.02 AU, the eccentricity to be 0.32 ± 0.02 and the inclination of the system to be 34 ± 3 degrees (1-σ). The total mass is found to be 0.123

The GL 569 Multiple System
We report the results of high spectral and angular resolution infrared observations of the multiple system GL 569 A and B that were intended to measure the dynamical masses of the brown dwarf binary believed to comprise GL 569 B. Our analysis did not yield this result but, instead, revealed two surprises. First, at age ∼ 100 Myr, the system is younger than had been reported earlier. Second, our...
متن کاملQuiescent X-ray Emission from an Evolved Brown Dwarf ?
I report on the X-ray detection of Gl 569 Bab. During a 25 ksec Chandra observation the binary brown dwarf is for the first time spatially separated in X-rays from the flare star primary Gl 569 A. Companionship to Gl 569 A constrains the age of the brown dwarf pair to 300 − 800 Myr. The observation presented here is only the second X-ray detection of an evolved brown dwarf. About half of the ob...
متن کاملNew constrains on Gliese 86 B ⋆
Aims. We present the results of multi epochs imaging observations of the companion to the planetary host Gliese 86. Associated to radial velocity measurements, this study aimed at characterizing dynamically the orbital properties and the mass of this companion (here after Gliese 86 B), but also at investigating the possible history of this particular system. Methods. We used the adaptive optics...
متن کاملAccurate masses of very low mass stars : II The very low mass triple system Gl 866 ⋆
ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Accurate masses of very low mass stars: II The very low mass triple system Gl 866 Abstract. We present very accurate orbital parameters and mass measurements (2.4% accuracy) for the well known very low mass triple system Gl 866. We obtain first orbital elements for the short-period orbit and greatly improve the long period orbit. All three stars have masses close to 0...
متن کاملAtmospheric Analysis of the M / L – and M / T – Dwarf Binary Systems LHS 102 and Gliese 229
We present 0.9—2.5μm spectroscopy with R∼800 and 1.12-1.22μm spectroscopy with R∼5800 for the M dwarfs Gl 229A and LHS 102A, and for the L dwarf LHS 102B. We also report IZJHKL′ photometry for both components of the LHS 102 system, and L′ photometry for Gl 229A. The data are combined with previously published spectroscopy and photometry to produce flux distributions for each component of the ki...
